Challenge
Universities face critical obstacles in digital transformation. Multiple disconnected data silos exist across administrative, academic, and research systems. Systems designed for corporations create steep learning curves. Enterprise solutions are expensive and inaccessible for public institutions. Each university builds isolated tools that cannot be shared across institutions.
At AGH, they recognised that existing solutions in the market were neither created by universities for universities, nor were they designed with the unique requirements of higher education in mind.

Solution
We developed DSI.Portal—a comprehensive digital transformation platform that solves these problems through:

Unified Data Hub: A REST API-based platform connecting all existing systems without requiring replacement or modification of current architecture. Organizations get one coherent and reliable data hub.

AI-Powered Search: Uses LLM (ChatGPT-like interface) to help users find information across scattered systems, transforming buried knowledge into accessible resources.

Developer-Friendly Ecosystem: Created an easy-to-implement environment where organisation employees can extend the system themselves, using widely-known technologies (PHP, Python, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

Beautiful UX: Built upon the most recent frontend technologies, leveraging beautiful design concepts to ensure adoption and ease of use.

Our Scope of Work
We designed a modular, scalable architecture based on REST API for seamless integration. We developed two functional MVP modules - LAURA for achievement documentation and management, and CoCo as an AI-powered catalogue of organizational resources and competences. We built modern, responsive UI with beautiful design focusing on user adoption, created connectors for existing university systems, and integrated LLM for intelligent search and business collaboration features. Finally, we created documentation and ready-to-use components for future extensions.


Result
In 2023, we launched the MVP of DSI.Portal for AGH University, delivering a cohesive system that integrates multiple data sources and digitizes paper-based academic processes. We created a public catalog of university resources and introduced an AI-powered chat interface that significantly enhances technology transfer and business collaboration without requiring NDAs.
Built on accessible technologies like PHP, Python, and PostgreSQL, the platform features a modular, REST API-based architecture. This ensures affordability and empowers in-house teams to independently develop new tools.
DSI.Portal actively fosters innovation by supporting machine learning, big data, and selective cross-university data exchange. Ultimately, it is evolving into a comprehensive digital ecosystem for higher education, where institutions can utilize AGH's core tools, integrate custom modules, and harness shared academic data.
